Petoskey Stone Bible Effigy; Early Missionary Item From Michigan Upper Peninsular Area; Native American Indians Sometimes Given As a Token of Friendship; Trade Item Copper Eyelet

Petoskey Stone Shaped Bible Effigy.  These small effigies were sometimes made by Indians, probably carved with metal tools.  They were patterned after Bibles carried by early missionaries.  It is made from a stone that is only found in Michigan Upper Peninsular and Northwest portion of the Michigan's Lower Peninsular. It still retains its original copper wire eyelet and stem. When inspected with  a loupe you can actually see that the wire is hand drawn. Underneath the eyelet there is a small domed washer to enhance its appearance.  This little treasure measures 1 1/8" x 7/8" x 5/16".``
