About three years ago I walked into my local Salvation Army and there was a shopping cart with a number of records and books that they had purged from the shelf to be taken to the dumpster. I asked if it was OK to go through the pile. These were some of the gems I found. If not for my curiosity,they would forever be lost and never known to exist. These are live rare recordings of Lu Watters and his Yerba Buena Jazz Band and are recorded from1938 to 1940 for the vocalist/banjoist credited on these recording is Clancy Hayes who association with YBJZ spanned the years 1938 to 1940 only. There are a total of five recordings. Three are on steel Wilcox-Gay Recordio Disc. One is a labeled JAZZ MAN and the other is a Audiodisc which sleeve is misplaced on these photo. Its sleeve has a logo for the Yerba Buena Music Store. I mistakenly put the Cant see mama/Terrible Blues record in it and photographed the error.

Above: This was a commercial recording on the Jazz Man label of Irish Black Bottom recorded on December 1941 with following musicians: Lu Watters, Bob Scobey, Cornets; Ellis Horne, Clarinet; Turk Murphy, Trombone; Walter Rose, Piano; Clarence Hayes, Banjo; Dick Lammi, Bass; Bill Dart, Drums. On the reverse is the arrangement Memphis Blues with the following musicians: Lu Watters, Bob Scobey, Cornets; Ellis Horne, Clarinet; Turk Murphy, Trombone; Walter Rose, Piano; Clarence Hayes, Banjo; Dick Lammi, Bass; Bill Dart, Drums

I believe this was recorded in the 1950's at the Yerba Buena Music Shop that was located at 5721 Grove Street in Oakland ,California or it was in a sleeve that had printed on it: Yerba Buena Music Shop, 5721 Grove Street, Oakland 9, Calif., Olympic 5675. On one side handwritten in ink is the title: Dippermouth, Lu Watters and hi Yerba Buena Jazz Band. On the reverse is the title song Tin Roof Blues, Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band.
